Rosemary Foley is Winner in National Playwriting Competition

The Six Women Playwriting Festival is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s competition.  Selected from hundreds of entries, the six winning plays will be premiered April 16 through19, 2009 at the Louisa Performing Arts Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

As in years past, the plays are both funny and serious written by playwrights from all over the nation. This year, all of the playwrights will be in attendance for the Friday and Saturday night performance and audience talkback.

The winning plays and playwrights include, Leaving Her by Rosemary Foley (Pelham, NY),  The Wedding Night by Deborah Magid (Cleveland), Safely Assumed by Andrea Fleck Clardy (Boston), Crab Cakes by Joan Lipkin (St. Louis), Home Fire by Sharon Farrell (Sioux City), and Seventh Inning Stretch by Layla Dowlatshahi (Minneapolis).

Rosemary’s play, Leaving Her, is a surprise to the audience.  Holding his golf bag, a man yells out to his wife, "I'm leaving now!"  But where is he really going?

The one-act play was developed by the playwright in the Theatre Artists Workshop in Norwalk and has gotten several readings in Fairfield, Greenwich, Stamford, and Westport, as well as Westchester County.

Rosemary is developing other new plays with actors in the workshop, as well as a new group called “Supporting Characters,” the Manor Club, and is a co-author of a new show called “Momoirs.”
